Empowering Recovery With Compassion & Evidence-Based Care

Recovery Health Services (RHS) is dedicated to supporting individuals in Jackson County, Missouri, who are impacted by substance use disorders. Centered in the urban core, RHS provides outpatient treatment grounded in compassion, hope, and person-centered care. Recognizing that each person's journey is unique, RHS tailors services to meet people where they are—offering healing from addiction through clinical expertise, housing support, and trauma-informed services.

Who RHS Serves

RHS primarily serves adults living in Jackson County who are experiencing substance use disorders, often alongside related challenges such as:

Trauma (including systemic and generational trauma)

 Poverty and financial instability

Homelessness or lack of affordable housing

 Legal system involvement

 Co-occurring mental health diagnoses

Many clients are referred through partnerships with agencies such as the Missouri Department of Mental Health (DMH), Department of Corrections, and local recovery coalitions. Whether someone is just beginning their recovery journey or seeking to maintain sobriety while rebuilding their life, RHS provides support every step of the way.

A Full Spectrum Of Evidence-Based Treatment

RHS integrates a variety of proven, research-based methods to support recovery, including:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) – to challenge harmful thought patterns and behaviors.

Contingency Management – offering motivational incentives to encourage progress.

Trauma Counseling, including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) – to address past traumas that may contribute to substance use.

Solution-Focused Therapy – helping clients envision and work toward positive change.

Motivational Interviewing – to strengthen internal motivation for recovery.

Additionally, RHS offers:

Addiction psychiatry services, including medication-assisted treatment (MAT)

 Individual therapy

 Group education and process groups

 Community support services

 Relapse prevention planning

This broad spectrum of services ensures that treatment addresses not just addiction, but also the underlying mental, emotional, and environmental factors driving it.

Integrated Services: Treating The Whole Person

Recovery Health Services is committed to a “housing first” and “medication first” model—ensuring that people get the support they need without unnecessary delays or conditions. This philosophy increases access to care for vulnerable populations and promotes dignity and stability.

Beyond addiction treatment, RHS offers connections to:

 Housing assistance

 Medical and psychiatric care

 Case management

 Employment and education resources

This wraparound model recognizes that recovery requires more than therapy—it demands secure housing, purpose, and community.

Addressing Co-Occurring Disorders & Trauma

RHS specializes in integrated treatment for individuals with both substance use and mental health disorders, commonly referred to as co-occurring or dual diagnoses. Using models like Integrated Dual Diagnosis Treatment and Cognitive Processing Therapy, clients receive targeted support for conditions such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia—frequently seen alongside addiction.

RHS also acknowledges the impact of trauma, particularly systemic trauma tied to racial and economic disparities. Trauma-informed care is a core component of every treatment plan.

Risk & Protective Factors

RHS understands that long-term recovery is shaped by a combination of risks and supports:

Common Risk Factors

 Trauma (personal, historical, and systemic)

  Homelessness and unstable housing

 Legal barriers and justice involvement

 Chronic poverty

Social isolation and lack of purpose

Protective Factors Promoted by RHS

Strong natural and family support systems

 Access to comprehensive treatment services

 Connection to a recovery community

 Stable housing

Regular access to physical and mental healthcare

Program Outcomes & Impact

The RHS model is designed to generate measurable, lasting results for individuals and the broader community. Expected outcomes include:

 Reduced or eliminated substance use

 Stable housing upon discharge

 Improved financial situation

No new legal issues or re-involvement with the justice system

Success Metrics

These outcomes reflect a holistic view of recovery—one that extends beyond clinical sobriety to include wellness, independence, and social reintegration.

Committed To Collaboration & Community Wellness

RHS partners closely with organizations like the Missouri Department of Mental Health, local reentry initiatives, and oversight committees to ensure that Jackson County residents receive timely, high-quality care at the appropriate level of need. RHS also contributes to the region’s Community Health Improvement Plan, supporting goals like improving behavioral health access and raising awareness around substance use intervention.

A Compassionate, Effective Model For Recovery

Recovery Health Services is more than a treatment center—it is a healing community that helps individuals rebuild their lives with dignity. By offering evidence-based care, addressing social determinants of health, and maintaining a trauma-informed approach, RHS creates a path to recovery that is not only possible—but sustainable.
