Crime Stoppers is a non-profit community organization—not a police agency—that encourages members of the community to assist law enforcement in solving crime. Crime Stoppers serves the entire metropolitan area, not just Kansas City.
As noted on the Crime Stoppers website, kccrimestoppers.com, "fear and apathy" are two factors that inhibit communities and the police as they seek to reduce crime.
The "community hotline" number listed above is available 24/7.
The AdHoc Group Against Crime was formed in 1977 as concerned citizens came together to address the unsolved murders of nine African American women. According to the Group's website, adhocgroupkc.com, the organization "serves as a trusted bridge between the community and law enforcement to reduce violence and solve crimes in order to make our neighborhoods safe and secure."
While it does provide funding to multiple law enforcement agencies, COMBAT is not, itself, a law enforcement agency.
COMBAT encourages individuals with information about crimes to use the phone numbers and/or links provided on this page as an alternative if they prefer not speaking directly with the police.
