NIC Regional Training

The Second Chance Risk Reduction Center, a program of the Kansas City Metropolitan Crime Commission, has been selected to host a National Institute of Corrections (NIC) regional training, Employment Retention: Principles & Practices. This opportunity will bring together the efforts of the Second Chance Program, National Institute of Corrections and Learning Designs.

National Institute of Corrections

Participants Will:

Combine cognitive-behavioral interventions with motivational interviewing techniques to address clients’ gainful attachment to the workforce and/or job loss. This “hand in glove” approach supports the honest exploration of thoughts, feelings, and beliefs affecting offender employment. Employment Retention: Principles and Practice topics include but are not limited to:

• Importance of Employment Retention
• Risk-Need-Responsivity (RNR) Model
• Importance of Assessment
• Career Development Theories
• Successful Program Models
• CBT Strategies and Techniques
• Client-Centered Communication Skills

Who Should Attend:

This three-day training event is intended for criminal justice practitioners and stakeholders supporting the reentry and workforce efforts of justice involved adults - to include a cross-section of a criminal justice collaborative representing probation, parole, correctional officers, human service practitioners, community-based, faith-based, etc.
