Purpose Statement
The Law Enforcement School Based Program of the Grain Valley Police Department consists of three full time School Resource Officers who work in schools throughout each school year. The School Resource Officers are available to school staff and students on a daily basis to provide law enforcement services, as well as assisting in counseling, mentoring, teaching, and maintaining daily interaction and engagement with staff and students.
Needs Addressed
The goals of our program are to prevent drug use and related violence among our students, to build relationships between police officers and the community, and to help maintain a safe environment for students and school staff.
This program addresses the problem of drug use, aggressive behavior and violence by students.
Services
School Resource Officers teach D.A.R.E. to 5th grade students and "Truth About Drugs" to 7th grade students. They are on duty in the schools during summer school and during summer break they present "Camp FOCUS," with the Grain Valley Police Department Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS), Eastern Jackson County Youth Court and other presenters from Law Enforcement, Courts, Schools, Treatment Providers and others.
"Camp FOCUS" is designed to provide education, counseling, mentoring and engagement of Law Enforcement with students who are selected for this program.
