In The Grain Valley Police Department's Own Words
The Law Enforcement School-Based Program of the Grain Valley Police Department consists of three full-time School Resource Officers who work in schools throughout each school year. The School Resource Officers are available to school staff and students on a daily basis to provide law enforcement services as well as assisting in counseling, mentoring, teaching and maintaining daily interaction and engagement with staff and students. School Resource Officers teach D.A.R.E. to fifth grade students and "Truth About Drugs" to seventh grade students.
School Resource Officers are on duty in the schools during summer school and during summer break they present "Camp FOCUS" with the Grain Valley Police Department Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS), Eastern Jackson County Youth Court and other presenters from Law Enforcement, Courts, Schools, Treatment Providers and others. "Camp FOCUS" is designed to provide education, counseling, mentoring and engagement of Law Enforcement with students who are selected for this program.
