Program Summary: Guadalupe Centers’ Bi-Lingual Substance Use Prevention Program is an Anti-Drug Prevention project serving Jackson County youth ages 11-19 during the school year and, new in 2020, expanding to include 10-year old 5th graders through high schoolers up to age 19 during the summer months.

During the school year program, youth primarily attend Guadalupe Centers Schools and most reside in Kansas City’s Westside and Northeast neighborhoods. The program provides youth education regarding the physical and social impact of using alcohol and other substances, including an emphasis on abstaining from vaping.

Prevention of substance use initiation/use is the focus, but the curriculum also addresses topics such as preventing teen dating violence and bullying. The Bi-Lingual Substance Use Prevention program helps develop social, personal and intellectual skills that strengthen self-esteem, positive behaviors and community connections, while emphasizing healthy life choices.
