Nikol Anderson – Treatment/DARE
Meet Nikol, a wife and mother who struggled with substance abuse addiction. After the passing of her husband due to an overdose, Nikol made the choice to seek treatment and overcome her addiction. While working toward her sobriety, Nikol was reunited with her own D.A.R.E. Officer, Charles Waites, of the Blue Springs Police Department. The D.A.R.E. program, funded by COMBAT, teaches thousands of Jackson County school children each year about the dangers of substance abuse.
Deyanira “D.D.” Gudino – Prevention/DARE
A young student, fighting to rise above the influence of substance abuse and violence in her neighborhood. Deyanira uses the education and advice from her D.A.R.E. Officer Commino and coaches at the Kansas City Police Athletic League to be the best she can be and reach her goals.
William Chaney – Treatment/Amani House
After a family intervention, William sought out the outpatient substance abuse treatment services of Imani House, a COMBAT-funded treatment service. Today, William is paying it forward as a staff member of Imani House, offering weekly group sessions teaching “The Truth About Drugs.”
Felix Maull – Prevention/ArtsTech
With a love for creativity and art, Felix found an after-school program just right for him at the COMBAT-funded program ArtsTech. ArtsTech believes that every youth deserves the opportunity to explore their full potential in the fields of art and technology.
United Inner City Services - Prevention
Two young mothers share their stories of how COMBAT funds helped them and their children. United Inner City Services' St. Mark’s Child and Family Development Center provides health, childcare and other support to families to enhance the quality of their lives.
